Evaluation

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

In this question I will be talking about how my media product
Relates and use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product, I will be going through and evaluating my media product and how it what relate to a real media product.

A. Genre

When I first had conducted my research I had looked upon various types genres in all forms of target audience this was because just as any media product in the market they would want to spread there product to a wider-range of audience to get more views or even more revenue, this is a key media skill I had to focus upon because this style of the media was used in many genres.
Genre is linked to the attitude/behavior, events, themes and iconography. These conventions help to introduce the genre without the audience having not known the genre; these techniques are helpful in my own media product because it helped me see the representation of my own media product.

Genre is a key to films success, so from the beginning of development of my own product I had considered this and knew I had to work on it to make my product to some extent of a real media product, I had considered genre to be something that had research, I had a look at many times of genre but one specific genre was British gangster, the reason for this was because it was a genre that was favorite genre, so I had conducted that I had to do a more product orientated approach to my media product.

B. Narrative Structure

My media product was structured in the way of an original British film with a tale beginning leading up to a point of shock and then the story rewinds and begins again, this in the media is a way of introducing genre and a conventional structure and this allows the audience to identify the pattern of the media product.
My media product relates to many existing media products and this is because it has a closed narrative that allows the viewer to watch thaw beginning to the end because of the structure of media product, this will allow a better approach from the audience and will gain higher regards.

In our media product we had used many key structure skills that allowed us to gain a better feedback of some such which include:
² Cross cutting
² Flashbacks
² Parallel
² Action

C. Form

My opening sequence is a brilliant example of an opening sequence which contains features used in actual media products. One feature which I found interesting was the voice-over which helped to gain audience attention and just like any normal hit media product they will use this feature to introduce the story line.

D. Style

I believe my film has a certain vibe to it that makes it look more pre-mature in comparison to a actual media product the reason being was how our finished product was shown, the reason being in my opinion was the soundtrack, dialogue, camera work and editing techniques. These helped me identify what our media product; they helped bring a more relevance to the media product in comparison to an actual media product.

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product was constructed towards our target audience, for it to target our target audience we had to evaluate our media product to push it towards representing particular social groups so; we had to focus on a particular area in which we would construct our film around.

My media product was many areas where it had focus on in representing particular social groups, but we had 2 main focuses Age and gender. These two representations are the main social groups in which actual media products look in to, we also had followed in them foot steps, we had conduced a questionnaire in which we conducted our results and had a giant step into our target representing social groups.

Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My company is A.FSI Productions. My production company make films that show the viewers the truth about youngsters and kill off stereotypes and show them the true meaning behind everything, our production company looks to distribute films that have a passionate background.
  • I had researched many distributors who would back the distribution of my film and that would promote it:
  • l Revolver entertainment - They are an upcoming distributor which has produced many new films in the market so far and have been known so far to be successful
  • l Lionsgate - They have been known to make films with my chosen genre and Lionsgate feel as a perfect suitors because of there history
  • l Warner Brothers - Not only the success of Warner brothers, but the history of the company that has driven me to think that they will be a perfect company that could produce my film.

My film could be exhibited in a cinema because I believe it is built on the purpose to inspire and reform public opinion and views. I believe my film will be exhibited in cinema mainly because a film will commonly come into cinema before being shown else where

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

My media product has targeted audience from ages from 12-21 and the reason being because they are the most common ages that tend to view films in my particular genre. Our group had decided to target both male and female and with the taste to our media products genre.
My group hope to attract a broad audience because as any other media product they hope for big audiences for higher revenue and we hope to produce it nationally and if it gets more famous here we shall release it to more abroad countries.

Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?

As a group we had attracted our audiences with the art of appealing, which meant having to research and having to make questionnaires and gaining feedback from random audiences to see where we needed improvements so, we could gain attraction from our target audience.

I had researched and conducted about the chosen genre of my media product, that it had attracted viewers from it's editing techniques and a main thing I found in this genre was that it would have a certain part where enigma is at a high and it will interest viewers to addresses the film in a way where they are more engaged.
A major way I had attracted my audience was choosing a popular genre and this was an advantage because popular genres tend to gain more viewers and help to address audience much better.

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Technologies that we had used in this project I had already used and had knowledge of them from the past, this was a major boost because I didn't have many problems with the equipment or technology we were handed to use.

However, there were times in which we were stuck and this `was because we came across random errors in which we had quality issues, which meant we had gone wrong somewhere in the process, but it only made us learn from our mistakes and make us stronger as a group.
If I was to pass advice from all this I would say is, make sure you listen and take in everything that is said because a small part you missed could make a big problem with your entire project.

In my opinion I found it a benefit that I had knowledge with these technologies but there were some places were we as a group needed improvement working with, however it made us see what we benefited from and so we worked on that harder.
The software we never had problem with because it was up to date and the best we could use so we never had problems and this benefited us greatly because it meant we would have less time stressing on smalls things and more time to work on major things.

The use of hardware was not much of a difficulty but there were problems we came across but as a group we tackled the problems and made the process of constructing our product easier.
In this whole project of constructing our final media product I have learnt to use what we have been given more appropriately and to work with the time we have such as non linear editing which helped give us a time to fiddle and learn and use something new such as fades and transitions.

To conclude I have learnt that technologies are a very complex thing to use and if not used in the right manor you could have a lot of problems in your hand. I had personally enjoyed using certain technology like camera and garage band.

Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full Product?

The preliminary task helped me get to know the people in my group and to work as a group; this had built a stronger bond between us. The editing process was the part I most enjoyed because we had a laugh in editing and pointing out one another’s mistakes and places were we went wrong.

The process in making our finished media product was a long process which included talking to one another about running shooting times and to fit times in our busy schedules for filming.

Allocating rules in our media project was the part in which we had a lot of discussion in and in the end we had agreed to the roles. Location was a major set-off because audiences are usually put-on with the setting of the scenery so, as a group we had a group discussion about location and agreed to the possible places and agreed to what was said.

The stages of production where we had the most focus on was editing and planning process because they were the process if went wrong would impact the other processes.

analysis of Adulthood - Opening sequence

analysis of Adulthood - Opening sequence

in this task i will be analyzing the opening sequence of adulthood and how it is been shown to be and what is included into the scene and i will be talking about mise-en-scene.

The scene starts of with a girl talking, which means it starts which a narrative and after 10 seconds she finishes and soundtrack starts which shows that the opening sequence has pace to the scene and it is trying to show the audience the genre of the film with online the opening sequence being introduced in to the scenery.

The scene stays at constant pace, with mixed narrative now and again and then comes to a slow soundtrack half way of the opening sequence, this shows the audience that the pace has been set and this will generally engage viewer more and more because of it's appealing soundtracks.

Genre research 2

Genre research 2

In this task i will be look at my second part of genre research and this time i have chosen to research the genre of horror. Horror is a genre that is for both male/female audience however it is targeted for the higher and maturer audience because of age restrictions i would say horror films are target at the ages around 16-26, this is because viewers below the age 16 are unable to view these films and they are to strong for the younger viewer to view such a visual genre.

I had a further look upon a particular film in this genre and it was paranormal activities and i have seen this particular film, the reason i had viewed this film was its success and the comments i received from peers and family convinced more to see the film. The film paranormal activities is a great example of a 20th century horror film which combines both horror and target market orientated because of how the film is portrayed.

Sound analysis

Sound analysis

In this sound analysis i will be analyzing the use of sound and connecting it to how we have used it in our opening sequence and also my initial sound ideas and i will be showing what research i have done and i will be conducting my results.

The scene starts with fast and soothing music to slowly build tension in the scene and bring more engagement from the audience, this is a key skill that editors use to make films suitably and produce masterpieces. As the scene progress so does the sound and builds up to the end and makes the sound slowly go faster to show the audience what the scene is trying to show and sometimes and in this case, in some opening sequences the soundtracks give away the genre and engage the user to a higher calling.

Overall Performance

Overall Performance

I believe my overall performance throughout this task of making the opening sequence has been very much a success as an individual because it helped me understand the media more and helped me see  what had to be changed. i believe that i have shown that i am a more capable student who has show his potential in this course. As an individual i have guided my team and shown them and inspired them to work harder in the tasks.

Movie title

Movie title

As a group we had agreed to name the opening sequence title 'Victim' because of the message we as a group are trying to portray to our target audience. I had initially come up with the idea and the inspiration had come from the role of the character and also the name had come from a song title which i was very familiar with. We called the opening sequence 'Victim' because it makes a more sense to the way everything is shown or portrayed in the opening sequence

Individual Progress Report 14/03/13

Progress report

we have finished filming our scenes and we as a group are ready to start editing , me as an individual will be working to create a soundtrack from garage band and also i will be creating a suitable title sequence to add to our opening sequence. Personally i believe this term i have shown signs of improvement along with my group and as an individual i will now be looking forward to finishing and submitting our group opening sequence on time. Next week by Wednesday we will be looking to finish our editing and start submitting our coursework.

Location work

Location Work

Location work is finding an appropriate scenery to help match the storyboard, as an individual i had many ideas to film and i had discussed it as a group and we had come to an agreement. I found the location work to be a more suited work for me, because i had knowledge of certain plays and positions where it was most suited to film our scenes and stuff.

Location work plays a big role into the success of an opening sequence, so from the beginning when i had conducted my research i had took a mental note of this and found that it was very useful to know such a knowledge because it helped us stay in position of filming and to have a good look at our progress as a group.

Crime genre research

Crime Genre research

In this blog i will be talking about my research on the crime genre and the final findings of this genre as a whole and its target audience and major crime genre hits in the box office which have managed to sell heavy and i will be talking further about how the crime genre is portrayed in the media today and what it's suited to.

the crime genre is a genre that is suited to the male viewers aged between 15-24 this is because most crime genres have a high demand from the male viewers and the reason why i have chosen the age ranges from 15-24 was because of the more common age restriction of this genre.

I have research London Boulevard because of it's more common known crime film, that is very much known in this genre becasue of it's interest from audience and appealing to the target market was a key idea that helped make this film such a success.

Production Companies

Production Companies

Production companies help make a film a big success because they potentially bring the film into the market ready to be viewed. A distributor plays a big part into disturbing the film because first the film has to be marketed into the market so the audience can get the message of a new film being introduced into the market ready to be viewed.

These are the main distrbutors in the market which have dominated the media industry all around the world for success, the marketing teams of the production companies will look at selling a great number of box office to gain sales from the audience.

Credits & Titles

Credits & Titles

in this task i will be talking about credits and titles and how they help to stage the scene into position and how they introduce the characters and the cast of position of authority into the scene. My Credits and Titles research that i have done recently, I've conclude that it is very important into staging the scene and getting the opening sequence rolling.

The Credits help the end of an opening sequence and help show whats in store for them ahead of the film. i had an initial look upon Spider man 2 and the credits and ihad realized how much of a big role credits plays into the film, because not only does it establish the film, it establishes the names of the whole cast and bring more viewers to view the film and will then gain more of a positive feedback.

The Credits of a film play a major role into introducing the film and its characters and in this Blog i have chosen to look upon in my research the opening title sequence of the film 300 because of its strong and brutal beginning to show the audience what is ahead for them in the scene and how the structure of the scene is.

Personal Responses to process of Planning

Personal Responses to process of Planning

The process of planning our opening sequences had begin which me making my own storyboard and looking further into the script and dialogue of such, which help me see what could be improved or even changed and up till date i believe the process of planning had taken long, but in the end i was happy of what i had came up with in the ending of the planning process.

The process of my individual work was to make notes and keep in-mind of progress and i believe that our group are on track now and i believe the most difficult part of the producing the opening sequence was the making and editing of the film because as an individual i had found these two element hard to cope with, i found inspiration along the way into my research and practice of this and found that it was much easier with the planning and practice put into my individual efforts.

Five Codes theory Research

Five Codes Research

In this task i will be talking about the research i had conducted into the media theory of Roland Barthes of Five codes which primarily talk about the text of a scene and how it is shown or portrayed.

Enigma Code is an association where the elements of a text help contribute to a device which is put forward into showing a greater meaning of the scene such as solving a mystery or even revealing something and this is called enigma because it builds tension to the scene itself

Action Code is related to the narrative structure because it helps show the action or the plot the text which is created by the reader, it helps to bring suspense and this is helped with the structuring principle.

Semiotic Code is mainly to do with the connotation shown for the whole, This allows the text to be shown instead of being told by describing the materials and things in order and to suggest immaterial ones.

Cultural Code is a straightforward way of showing the constituted points of the text which refers to the most common bodies of knowledge.

Symbolic Code is the most interpreted and it exists to explain the complexities of an element of the text.

Setting

 Setting

Setting is where the scene is set, setting is a place in which a director must consider greatly into shooting there film, this is because the scenery is highly regarded to be a pointer in a film and for the film to be a success the director must produce his/her film in such a location that it will win the audience over from viewing the opening sequence.

Setting plays a major role into the success of a film because it allows the audience to see how much work is put into producing a film and distributing it into the market, this is because setting helps make a film predominate, with its scenery.

I had research Harry Potter's trailer, because of it being a box office hit and the reason behind it being a box office hit other than its characters and dialogue, was it's scenery and this is because the scenes are set in such a way that the audience are engage and it helps to the mood of the scene and the build up to the next scene.

Narrative and Structure

Narrative and Structure theory (Levi Strauss)

Levi-Strauss was the theorist who had came up with the narrative structure and the terms of binary opposition, the term binary oppositions means the sets of opposite values which means that it is the straight of opposite of something such as Good vs evil which is portrayed in nearly every film and this is because it is the most common used thing in the media today.

Binary opposition doesn't look at which order the events occur at they are arranged as how the scheme  or plot is laid out into the the order of the scene which means that the scene will then look for a deeper meaning into the scene in a bigger arrangement of the themes of the scheme.

Media language

Media Language

Media language is a way the scene is shown to us as a viewer, this means that it could be portayed in anyway, in this task i will be referring to an opening sequence when i will be talking about media language and how it shown and produced to the audience.

Media language includes many different types of media techniques which include:
-Lighting
-Music
-Costume
-Editing Styles
-Camera Movement

lighting is used to show the audience a brighter and more clear view in this scene and helps give the audience more involved into the scene, music helps to bring mood from the viewer into the scene, Costumes help show the audience sometimes see where the scene is set, editing Styles help show the audience the effort the make the scene and it helps amaze the audience and Camera movement in my opinion plays a big part in opening sequences because it shows the audience match on action and helps to show the audience a clear view of the scene.

Opening sequences and Conventions

Opening sequences and Conventions

In this task i will be talking about opening sequences and conventions and i will be look further upon the research i had conducted and i will be talking further about representations of opening sequences and how it has been presented in the media.

Opening sequences must have Narrative functions in some cases and they help to make the opening sequence much clear for the audience to understand what's being said in the opening sequence and it helps show us what's about to be show in the upcoming scene. Narrative in the opening sequences help introduce characters and establish the structure of the scene and the setting of the scene. Narrative functions help establish the audiences expectation through the use of generic conventions which make the picture more clear for the viewers.

narrative conventions show the predominance of the action code in the scene and also the narrative convention portray a establishing mood with the soundtrack and help give the audience a indirect message into what going to happen ahead of the clip. Narrative conventions help bring pace to the scene and they show the viewer the scenes set-up and help the clip move on from where it was from the scene before.

Genre research 2

Genre Research 2

I have chosen to research genre once again, because i have believed that genre was something i had to look further upon in my studies and i had found that genre is a main cause of a success in a film and it helps you find and target your audience of viewers. in my research of genre i had conducted i found that there over 15+ different type of genres in the British media industry.

A genre generally provides a relationship between audiences and producers which minimize the risk of failure and the reason being is because if you have a favored genre then it is less likely to flop because a favored genre fits into the category of your target audience and market.

The genre i had looked more upon was action and adventure, i had conducted that action and adventure was a mixed genre which have films more directly to the family and teenage genre, the reason being because the films structure is built around the fact to sell tickets to these types of audiences. I had chosen to look at a famous box office hit Indiana Jones, my research showed me that it was a family favorite because it had combined both favorite genres from both groups of ages to make a more intermittent film

Editing

Editing

Editing from the beginning i believed was going to be the most major part to our opening sequence i had research and viewed many trailers and sequences to see which was a good example and which ones could inspire me as an individual to do better, i conducted from my research that editing was going to be easy which made the task as a group for us more enjoying, because it meant that we could gain more knowledge along the way.

From the research i had conducted as an individual i had found that the most visual style of editing were the most suited by audiences, stuff like continuity editing, 180-degree rule and match on action helped me to understand how important editing was going to be.

Once we got onto the editing process, i had realized that there were going to be errors and things we needed to fix up, editing made me see the faults and problems we had as a group and it made me want to do better.

I had viewed 'The cutting Edge' for inspiration and i have came across facts about editing and the production of a film and it's 'cutting process' which meant that editing was to take a long time till the distribution of the film.

music Research

Music Research

The music research was a vital thing that i research and my findings show that the most favoured music is Rock and Hip-hop from our target audience. The music research i had done was to find out what soundtrack was most suited to the opening sequence my group and i have conducted. I had analysed many soundtracks and music and we found it was most suited to use garageband to make our soundtrack to fit the name of the time and bring a more interest from our target audience.

The title of our opening sequence is 'Victim' and i had come across many soundtracks and i was impressed by many, me and the group had sat down and discussed what our best suited soundtrack would have been and we had first were convinced to have a lyrical song such as 'Victim' this was because it is the same name as the title sequence and it had seemed to appeal to us as a group.

The music i research had to fit the discussion of the opening sequence and i had to get the group onto my side into agreeing and being happy to add the sound into the film and had to be related to production of my film, this was because it had to show significance to film to appeal to a greater number of target audience.

Individual Reflections

Initial Reflection

In this task i will be talking about my initial progress and ideas, also i will be looking further on what has been done up to date and what me as an individual, i've done to progress my group up till this stage.  As an individual in my group i have achieve a lot as, i've been working on my blog posting what me and group have done and our initial look into editing and my making the soundtrack of our opening sequence.

As a individual i conducted, independent research throughout the course, i've looked upon making my opening sequence much better and with the research i had done along the way i had gained more knowledge of how the media industry works and how to structure and to conduct the first initial act filming/acting.

I believe in this term i have worked much harder and contribute much more to group work and i've made a better approach to classwork and work outside class, i've helped my group heavily into getting where we are today. I have had many initial ideas and soundtrack to fit the role of the film. I have planned what i was going to do and so far it has been up to scratch. From my research i had come with inspiration for my work by gaining more knowledge.

Audience Research

Audience research

In this task i will be concluding my audience research that i have done in the past last week. My research was essential for me to find what my film should be targeted it as. The research has included to that the most suitable ages to go for was the ages from 12-21 and this is the most common age groups that go to the cinema and this will play a vital success into a movies success because with the most common age groups will view your film this will mean more viewers will wish to see your film.
Film questionnaire

what is your age group?

Institution

Institution

In this task i will outline the plan of my key ideas and i will give examples what i will be doing in my opening ideas and also who would be most likely to distribute my film. in this task i will be talking about the distributors and best suitors for my films. Distributors are people that help you sell tickets to your film, with advertisements and help you bring your initial film idea into the market ready to be viewed by audience.

The warner Brothers is a very good example as a big distributor because of it's history of successful films that they had distributed into the media today. I have research and had a further look into this production company and i believe this is a very suitable distributor to my film due to the fact they are known in the market as instance successors.

Revolver Entertainment whereas is a upcoming media company which has produced small and upcoming media directors and they have distributed british crime drama, which have succeed to the younger/teenage viewers which have been suited to this type of genre of film. Revolver Entertainment is in my opinion a good film distributor because i find there opening distributor logo entertaining and appealing.

Representation

Representation

The representation in films has been a big issue into the film industry for centuries now, and this is because of stereotypes in the film industry, in my research which i conducted i have tried to hit back at stereotypes and stick to a more fair and appealing opening sequence which portrays male and females equally and shows the targeted viewers what we are trying to portray in our opening sequence.

Film Covers sometime portray the women as weak characters and this due to how they have been portrayed in the media for centuries, but however films like Salt have changed and hit out at stereotypes and changed it up and portrayed the female gender more wise and stronger. The film industry have shown stereotypes because it makes the audience understand the sequence more and show the structure of the film.

Phantom of the opera

Phantom of the Opera

Phantom the opera is a film that is very highly regarded as a hit in the media industry with all its scenes and its soundtracks. in the blog i will be talking about phantom of the opera and i will look further into miss-en-scene of Phantom of the opera. Phantom of the opera starts of with a dark sequence and moves beyond to a lighter scene to the past, whereas it is much brighter in that scene.

The setting of Phantom of the opera begins at a dark scene in a theatre and it seams to be shown as a bidding is taking place and everyone is sad. the scene seems to have shown a place where a theatre of arts and drama is shown and looks to have once held a thousands of high class people that would of had seen the opera. Once the Chandlers go up the scene moves onto a bigger meaning and then portrays a visual image of the scene moving onto the past where there was more happiness and more joy into the theatre. The effect of the scene changing up has meant that the scene is more entertaining and more involving to the characters and engages the audience.

The characters are dressed ups as high-class people with their long dresses and suits portray that they are in the past and that they are high-class because of there involvement into the bidding. The sound begins with sad and unappealing music, but once the scene begins to show colour theres a spooky music which comes into the scene and lightens the audience.

opening sequence Research

Opening sequence research

The opening sequence in a film is what establishes a film, and begins to show the audience what they are in for. The opening sequence includes credits and titles of the film. the opening research i did was vital into my research into find what was best suited into my opening sequence for my coursework. my opening research included looking into what films had to be known for there opening sequences such as the mummy and James Bond, because they have been box office major hits and known for their opening sequences

The mummy is one of my favourite opening sequence because of its Oxymoron beginning with happy cheerful music with a dark background, which engages the audience with mixed thoughts. the opening sequence includes the titles of directors and producers. the opening sequence of the mummy includes powerful images and gives the audience a good image what is coming ahead of the film for them.

James Bond: Casino Royale is a very powerful opening sequence and in the british media it is considered as a big favourite from the audiences and this is because of its visuals and the soundtracks that make the opening sequence so appealing to the audience.

5th February 2013

As a group today we has conducted our first step into editing, due to the fact we have to present our first rough cut of what we have done to the class to gain feedback from our class

We had a initial look of our scenes that we had filmed and gained knowledge of the fact that our scenes had still needed to be added into our initial opening sequence idea.
